Out of Box Packaging

Experience Design

Overview

Created concepts for the initial out-of-box experience for the BlackBerry Pearl and BlackBerry Bold devices.

Mood Boards

I created mood boards to communicate the interests of the target demographics for different devices. The BlackBerry 8800 mood board reflected a more sophisticated and luxurious feeling. While the Pearl reflected a more playful and youthful feeling. This is important in communicating the feelings users want to experience when unpacking a product.

Sliding Box Concept

This sliding concept is a box that you have to push open instead of lifting a lid.

Drawer Concept

A drawer that organizes all materials as users require them.

BlackBerry 8800 Concept

Presenting users with the phone first, and communicating visually where the sim and battery need to be placed as soon as the user removes the phone. Other peripherals are hidden away in compartments.

Cube Concept

Sticker Concept

By placing a sticker that indicate the functionality of important navigational buttons, the users can quickly familiarize themselves with how to navigate on a BlackBerry device before they they turn on the device.
